A Simple Social Media Strategy for a Local Business

22 Oct 2026 | By: Aaron Briggs

You don’t need a 40-page document. A local business needs a social media strategy that fits on one page and that your team will actually follow.

Most local businesses post when they remember, hope something sticks and then go quiet for a month. The fix isn’t posting more. It’s knowing who you’re talking to, what you want them to do and having a simple rhythm you can keep. Here’s how we’d set it up.

01 · Local strategy

Who are we actually talking to?

Start with one or two types of customer, the people you most want more of, and write down what they care about.

A physio clinic might focus on desk workers with sore backs and weekend sport injuries. A café might focus on local parents and nearby office workers. When you know who it’s for, deciding what to post gets much easier.

02 · Local strategy

What should a local business post?

Mix people, proof and offers. Show your team, show results and happy customers, and tell people clearly how to buy or book.

People buy from businesses they feel they know. Faces, behind the scenes and real customer moments build that trust. Proof shows you deliver. And a clear offer tells them what to do next.

How often should we post?

As often as you can keep it up. A few good posts a week, every week, beats a burst followed by silence.

Pick a rhythm that suits your team, then batch the work. One content day a month, where you capture photos and video for the weeks ahead, makes consistency far easier.

04 · Local strategy

How do followers become customers?

Make the next step easy and reply fast. Clear links, a simple booking or enquiry path, and someone answering messages.

Comments and DMs are where interest turns into sales. A quick, friendly reply often matters more than the post itself. When you’re ready to grow faster, paid ads put your best content in front of local people who don’t follow you yet.

05 · Local strategy

How do we know if it’s working?

Track a few numbers that link to sales: enquiries, bookings and messages, not just likes.

Check once a month. Keep what brings people in, drop what doesn’t and adjust the plan. That’s the whole strategy, repeated.
